Stop bed bugs!

By King

Stop bed bugs!  Save your mattress and box springs with effective and complete mattress encasements by Mattress Safe, Inc.

SofCover mattress encasements feel luxurious to the body.  These total encasements are water resistant as well as totally dust mite proof.  SofCover “Ultimate” and “Superior ” products are made of a soft, stretchable and tightly woven fabric bonded to an undetectable, flexible micro-thin barrier.  This soft and stretchable fabric, with a mean pore size ranging from 2 to 10 Microns, keeps you comfortable while totally protecting you from dust mite allergen and bed bug penetration.

The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Feb 1999, Part 1, Volume 103 Number 2 – Evolution of Materials used for bedding encasements, has issued a study in support of materials like the SofCover fabric, design and application against dust mites and bed bug penetration.

Allergy specialists and medical studies state that using zippered encasements with dust mite and bed bug proof zippers on your mattress, pillows and box springs will stop dust mite allergen in your bedding from becoming airborne and thus inhaled while you sleep.  These encasements completely trap dust mites and their allergen inside providing the perfect barrier of protection while extending the life of your pillows and mattresses.  They also keep bed bugs from penetrating the encasement while protecting against mattress and box spring infestation.  SofCover encasements have a mean pore size in the recommended range of 2 to 10 Microns. Dust mite allergen (Der 8 1 and Der p1) were blocked below detectable limits by fabrics of less than 10 ?m in pore size; therefore, the bed bug being more than .50 mm in diameter and ¼” to ?” in length will not be able to penetrate the fabric’s barrier.

Bed bugs are much larger than dust mites. Their travel worldwide is attributed to their hearty ability to survive in luggage and inanimate objects without food and water.  Their eggs are hearty and able to survive 6-12 months.  Bed bugs and their eggs are susceptible to extreme temperatures and chemical exterminations.  The bed bug pierces the skin of the host with its sharp beak as it begins feeding and injects oily, odiferous liquid into the skin causing itchiness and swelling.  Exterminator services are the first line of defense for bed bug infestations.  To save the infested mattress, whether treated or not, SofCover encasements (water proof and breathable fabric) used for the protection from dust mites, their feces and broken down body parts is sufficient for protection against a much larger sized bed bug and its eggs.

Conclusion –

Many state and local governments do not allow mattresses to be sprayed with chemicals.  The infested mattress normally must be thrown away; however, encasing the mattress proactively after bed bug infestations will spare the mattress and box springs.  The encasement fabrics used for dust mite treatments are more than sufficient for bed bug protection due to the large size of the bed bug compared to the dust mite.  Mattress encasements are the first line of defense (after extermination takes place) for prevention of bed bug reinfestation.  The encasement serves the purpose of containing the bed bugs and eggs within the mattress keeping them away from humans and later perishing.  Additionally, the encasement prevents any potential new infestations from spreading to the encased mattress.
